Beating on a moorlandThe Countryside Alliance’s moorlands campaign works for you in order to defend our unique moorland areas by promoting understanding of grouse shooting and its associated moorland management. We also promote the considerable benefits of these to conservation, the environment, the rural economy and local communities. Driven grouse shooting is an activity that remains under threat from those that either do not understand the issues, or refuse to accept or acknowledge the facts. Without the income that is generated through shooting, its associated moorland management would cease, which would affect not just those directly involved in the sport, but also those who love the uplands as we know them today, with wildlife and habitat ultimately being lost.

“ the Countryside Alliance works for you in order to raise the awareness of the importance of sustainable grouse moor management, and to ensure its future not just for our generation, but also for those that follow
The moorlands campaign is not just about heather and grouse; it encapsulates all those other aspects that affect the uplands. The major contribution to landscape, other flora and fauna, carbon storage, water supply, local employment and income is therefore promoted as an overall package. Factual and researched based evidence is used to brief Members of Parliament, agencies, authorities and other organisations, as well as members of the public. This is done at moorland open days, on a one to one basis, as well through the Countryside Alliance’s representation on committees and working groups. High profile publicity that promotes, and where necessary defends, grouse shooting and its associated management is also achieved in the national and regional media, and considerable progress has been achieved in changing the attitudes of those that were previously unaware of its significant importance to the uplands and its communities.

Reg grouseIt is therefore through the promotion of scientific research and education at all levels, that the Countryside Alliance works for you in order to raise the awareness of the importance of sustainable grouse moor management, and to ensure its future not just for our generation, but also for those that follow. We maintain a close relationship with the Moorland Association, as well as with the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, and the National Gamekeepers Organisation and by working constructively together on your behalf, our campaign has a strong, coordinated, voice on all moorland issues.
