Our moorlands need highly specialised care Countryside Alliance Chief Executive Simon Hart applauds the work of our moorland managers as one project in Derbyshire is shortlisted for a National Lottery Award: Good news for Derbyshire Peak District's Moors for the Future, which was recently shortlisted for a National Lottery Award for Best Environment Project; thanks to all who voted, it has now made it to the final alongside two other projects - you can now vote for the project to win.

Congratulations to the "End to Enders"

Image On Sunday 6th July Wayne Clark, Joshua Clark, Hayden Clark, Harry Thatcher, Nick Johnson, Ted Johnson, William Saunders, John Saunders and Joshua Reigner embarked on the challenge of a life time cycling from John O Groats to Lands End, End to End, in aid of the County Air Ambulance (Warwickshire and Coventry) and the Countryside Alliance. On Friday 18th July they successfully completed the adventure so congratulations to them all!

Top Gear goes hunting

Jeremy Clarkson tried to stay ahead of the pack - but did he succeed? On Sunday 20th July, BBC2's Top Gear programme included a feature where presenter Jeremy Clarkson, driving a 4x4 painted like a fox and trailing fox scent, was "hunted" by the Ledbury foxhounds and co-presenter Richard Hammond riding Harry the hunter. Clarkson claimed that "Top Gear has saved the countryside" - see if you agree by watching the feature on BBCi here . The feature begins at 47minutes 50 seconds and will be online until Sunday 27th July 2008.

Moorland initiative in National Lottery Grant final

Moors for the Future Thank you to everyone who voted for Derbyshire Peak District's Moors for the Future in the first round of voting for the 2008 National Lottery Award for the Best Environment Project. With your help they have made it to the final against just two other projects. Voting for the overall winner has now re-opened from scratch and will close on Friday 8th August 2008.  You can vote on 0845 386 5776 or online. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony which will be shown on prime time TV on Saturday 30th August.
