Beaters and pickers up also insured

Shooting is a Recognised Activity under the Countryside Alliance members insurance package and beating and picking up, as an intrinsic part of shooting, are also deemed Recognised Activities and therefore included in our members insurance package.
The Countryside Alliance is one of very few organisations able to offer this insurance for beaters and pickers up.
The members insurance package provides cover for a wide range of country pursuits but does not provide cover where any such activity is regarded as the members' business, trade or profession. Our brokers have sought clarity around this issue from the insurance programme underwriters regarding the fact that money is often paid to beaters and picker ups. The underwriters have confirmed that they would not deem "paid for" beating and picking up activities to be "business trade or profession" and it has never been intended for the policy to be interpreted in this way. However, the underwriters acknowledge that the wording in the policy on this point could be clearer and our brokers are working with the underwriters technical and compliance department to try and agree a wording that is clear and contract certain.
