Message from William Burton
Dear All,
As this is my first message to you all , I thought I had better tell you a bit about myself.
Firstly, I want to say what an honour it is to have been selected for this role with the CA. I have recently retired from farming with my brother in North Essex after about twenty years.
During that time I whipped in to the deBurgh and North Essex Bassets under John Humphrey and have been Master and Huntsman of both the West Lodge Harehounds (with Neil Curtis who many of you will remember) and the Granta harriers. Currently, I am amateur whipper-in to the Thurlow Hunt (sorry Chris, I may be a bit busy this winter!) I am a fairly inefficient shot but enjoy the occasion very much!
Obviously as the show season is now over, it will not be as easy to meet so many of you. However, I will be attending as many point-to-points as I am able to, so please if you see a lonely character standing on the CA stand, do come and introduce yourself and have a chat.
If any-one has an item they would like to be included on this mailing in the future , such as a hunt or shoot fund raising function please get in contact with Sarah Taylor ( sarah-taylor@countryside-alliance.org) or myself.
My contact details are listed above, so if any of you have something that you would like me to help with, please do not hesitate to contact me .
Whether you hunt or shoot, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and successful season.
William Burton

Vote now in the 'Rural Oscars'
The seventh annual Countryside Alliance Awards are now open to nominations at www.countrysideallianceawards.org.uk so please nominate now and help boost the region's small businesses, produce and communities.
The Awards are our annual celebration of rural life and have become a popular way to sing the praises of those whose hard work makes our countryside tick. Nicknamed the 'Rural Oscars' the Awards are a high profile and positive way of showing the wider public, the media and politicians all the great things going on in the countryside. They are pure celebration and those who win have reported back on the feelgood factor and morale boost they give to all concerned.
The Awards are public nomination led so please nominate now and make sure your rural heroes don't go under the radar. There are five categories (Local Food, Village Shop/ Post Office, Enterprise, Butcher and Rural Hero. NB the Rural Hero category runs at national level only).
Who knows, your kind words could see a local business on its way to a regional title and a trip to the Westminster finals!
