Disabled anglers will be hard hitThe Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, was challenged over the huge rise in rod licences for disabled anglers during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday 30th April 2008. The visibly uncomfortable Prime Minister pledged to look into the 37% increase saying: “I will look at the facts…and see what has happened to bring that about”.

Roger Williams MP supports the first ever Welsh retreatFourteen brave ladies (and Molly the spaniel mascot) enjoyed a weekend fly fishing retreat at Caer Beris Manor Hotel at Builth Wells from 11-13 April at the first ever Casting for Recovery event to be held in Wales. The Caer Beris retreat was only the third to be held in the UK, the first of its kind in Wales, and attracted several Welsh participants who were instructed by members of the Welsh Ladies Fly Fishing Team. Local MP Roger Williams also came along to wish the participants well as they went fishing for the first time at Llyn Gwyn fishery near Rhayader.

Concessionary licence fees have increased dramatically in 2008 Countryside Alliance Chief Executive Simon Hart applauds the angling rod licence, but highlights an unjust hike in fees for vulnerable anglers: Many of you, like me, will have renewed your rod licence in the last couple of weeks. I hope you have also taken the opportunity to support your local Post Office by purchasing your licence over the counter.

Casting for Recovery announces a Northern Ireland retreat Print E-mail

Image Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland, the unique outdoor-based programme specifically designed for women who have, or have had, breast cancer, has announced that its first retreat for Northern Ireland will be held at Brookhall Trout Fishery in Co Antrim from 19th - 21st September 2008, and is inviting patients to apply for a place. Retreats are provided at no cost to participants due to the financial backing of the Countryside Alliance Ireland, and include accommodation, meals, counselling, and professional instruction.
