3rd annual competition to launch at the Royal |

The Countryside Alliance will launch its third annual Best Rural
Retailer competition at the Royal Show at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire on
2nd July. Launching at the home of the Royal Agricultural Society of
England will emphasise the links between rural communities and local
food.

Abbotts Ann Village Shop gets a boost from Farmers Weekly |
|
|
On 23rd February 2007 Farmers Weekly published a feature on
the Best Village Shop/ Post Office in the South of England (according
to the Countryside Alliance's Best Rural Retailer competition!).
Abbotts Ann Village shop and Post Office is a community run initiative
that is a model for the future of village retailing. The volunteers are
also supporting National Post Office week, having fought so hard to

Media attention for Abbotts Ann |
|
|
The Hampshire-based Abbotts Ann Village Shop received a national commendation in the Best Village Shop/ Post Office category of the 2006 Best Rural Retailer competition. The Hampshire Chronicle published a story on this honour, Village PO pipped at the (award) post in which local MP Sir George Young called the shop "an absolute credit to the village". Sir George was at the House of Lords reception and presented the ladies of Abbotts Ann with their commendation certificate (standing at the back of the photograph. Also in shot is Roger Williams MP who was also keen to congratulate Abbotts Ann.)
